Expeditionary learning assignment

Expeditionary learning assignment

In Environmental Issues, we had to do an expeditionary learning assignment. This was an activity of our choice that involved helping the environment through volunteering, educating, or touring environmentally friendly facilities outside of class. We had to write a 2-page paper detailing our time after and explaining what we learned. For my ELA, I went to EcoMaine and volunteered at their recycling open house this October to teach kids how to do environmentally friendly kids crafts, such as paper making and paper weaving. I chose to highlight this project because I feel as though I actually went out and made a (very small) difference. Environmental Issues was a class that focused primarily on the damage people are doing to the environment. I was able to see a tiny portion of just how much paper, plastic, and glass people throw out every day, and it was more eyeopening than anything I’ve ever been taught in a classroom setting. This definitely made me more aware of “our place in the environment,” which was one of the objectives in the course overview. While completing my ELA I showed that I understand the importance of reducing waste in order to reduce the environmental impact of humanity.
